Richard Linklater's Entrepreneurial Auteurism
Public:
Synopsis :
American film auteurs are traditionally known for their recognizable themes and signature style. One of the 21st century’s most celebrated directors, Richard Linklater has rather been known for his chameleonic ability to adapt to a wide variety of genres, but also to shifting patterns of production. This lecture will discuss how his work adapts film auteurism in the context of neoliberalism.
Dan Hassler-Forest is assistant professor in Media Studies at Utrecht University. He is the author and editor of several books and articles, which look at popular genres like sci-fi, fantasy, and horror, both as new media-industrial forms and as expressions of the cultural logic of global capitalism.
